Persimmon Woods

A ground layer planted with native ephemerals.

This garden, once covered with non-native plants such as English Ivy, privet, and winter creeper now blooms with native spring ephemerals such as Jack-in-the pulpit, bloodroot, trilliums, and foamflower under the lush canopy of sassafras, tulip poplars, persimmon, blackgum, and oak trees. These springs flowers are the first to leaf out and bloom before the overhead trees blockout the sunlight.
